Matthew Centrowitz, who won the Olympic gold medal in the 1,500 meters at last summer’s Olympics, has withdrawn from the Prefontaine Classic.
Centrowitz tweeted that he is ill with a virus.
The two-day meet begins tonight at Hayward Field in Eugene. Centrowitz had been expected to run in the Bowerman Mile on Saturday.
Centrowitz’s absence from the Bowerman MIle start list was reported on Twitter Friday morning by the website LetsRun.com. OREGON LIVE
